5 Reasons Why You Should Use Natural Skincare Products

With today's consumers, we are becoming more and more aware of what we put inside our bodies. But what about what we put ON our bodies? We are now seeing major brands offer more natural line of products on the shelves, but what does that mean? Are they really putting what we would consider "natural" ingredients in their products? How can you tell if an ingredient is considered natural or not? Well, here are 5 reasons why you should know that natural is almost always better!

1. Natural is As Natural Does

How many times do we see old home remedies used from our grandparents that they pulled out of their pantry and works? Almost always! That's because natural ingredients all have some kind of chemical property that may or may not work depending on what you're wanting to use it for! Think of all the different fruits, vegetables and herbs that have natural antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory  properties (and many other "anti" properties) inside of them. When using the ingredients properly, you can really get some great results from specific items. But just as its important to know the natural properties, it's just as important to know which ingredients work well with others.

2. You Know What is in Your Products

How often are we looking at labels and not understanding the majority of what's inside our products? Before I started this business, I got lost about halfway through the labels before giving up and just trusting the product hoping it won't ruin my body. Now legally for business owners, it is required in the USA to provide labels from the FDA to write the ingredients with the INCI (International Nomenclature for Cosmetic Ingredients) names provided in descending order, which can make any normal consumer confused on what is actually inside our products. However, when using natural ingredients, the common name is normally provided within the INCI name so it can be easier to know what exactly is in your products. For example, if you have coconut oil inside a product, the INCI name "Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil" already has the word "coconut" inside of it. This makes it easier for the consumer to understand what is inside their products.

3. They are Eco-Friendly

When you use products with natural ingredients, it's easier on the environment. Products that are biochemically manufactured create pollutants that will get released into the air and water, further damaging natural resources. Products with natural ingredients that are farmed and organically manufactured ease up on the pollution and won't damage our environment.

4. No Weird Side Effects

Many products have preservatives inside, but not all are what we would call natural. One of the most popular synthetic preservatives is Paraben. Parabens are used in conventionally produced health and beauty products as a preservative to extend the shelf life of products. Parabens, however, mimic your body’s natural hormones. When you use a preservative that mimics your bodies natural hormones, it can worry consumers that it may cause side effects they weren't looking to have. Some more natural preservatives to look for are Vitamin E oil, Rosemary Extract, Grapefruit Seed Extract, and other derivatives approved by FDA that have natural chemical properties.

5. Natural is More Gentle Over Time

Natural ingredients have no chemical additives or conditions that may break down your body's natural ecosystem over time. Even though we forget or don't notice, our body has trillions of ecosystems that coincide with each other to help our bodies do the job that it needs to do. If you add harsh chemicals to that system, over time it could interrupt its natural cycle and cause more damage than good.

Although it's hard to ignore most of the chemicals we use our normal products, it can be easier if you understand why you should look for more natural ingredients. In today's society, it can be hard to escape using major brands that chemically manufacture their ingredients, but with practice and effort, we can all collectively try to make a difference in our personal skincare routines by focusing on more natural ingredients!
